You better work

Working out can work your hair

I know that this is the time of the year to get in shape, lord knows that I need to. The problem is, your hair is at risk for damage and breakage. I have a diverse clientele. The larger percentage of my business are, women who have chemical relaxers. When you are getting that work out on, sweating and plugged into that ipod, you could be missing a very important key to hair care.
Women of today are not playing. We are roller blading, white water rafting, walking, jogging, biking, working out in the gym,and some of you are even running marathons. I'm so proud of you, I can't do that one! More power to you. We have a broad list of things that we are doing in this modern world of ours. You have to take into consideration that these are the times when you have to add your hair, to that to do list. Make time for your hair. Make time for the maintenance of your hair.
We as hair stylist can not do this alone. I love my job. I love enhancing a person with the great qualities, that he or she already possess. Sometimes you can get caught up with the fact that someone else is getting paid to take care of your hair. Stop that. This is a joint effort,a production if you will. The main three things you need to know are:

KNOW WHAT YOUR HAIR IS SAYING
LISTEN WHEN YOU KNOW
TOOLS OF THE TRADE

It's hard to say what people need in general. You are the person who has to give us that history when you come in for your consultation. Is it dry, breaking, porous, oily, flaky,etc...
Pay attention, your hair is going to tell you what it needs. If it has been determined that it's dry, for instance. Then everyday moisturizing my seem to be the answer but your hair my need it every two to three days or not as much. There is also what kind of moisturizer you need it may be light or heavy. These are the things that you and your stylist need to collaborate on.

Once you figured out exactly what it is that you need to do for your hair you need to actually do it.
Don't neglect your hair, it will ultimately get revenge.
Do what it takes, make time. When you figure it out with your stylist, actually do what it takes. It's talking to you.

Once you and your hair have had that talk. You need to get all the right things lined up to achieve success.
The right brushes, combs, products, attitude, goals(realistic). It's the conversation with your stylist that can save your hair.
You are the only one that can keep up the good job that you are paying for.
There is nothing wrong with not knowing. But you need to ask somebody. I hope it's your stylist.
GET YOUR WORKOUT ON, but don't let the work out work your hair.
Don't be scared, be prepared.

CONSULT YOUR STYLIST!
